Tipu Sultan (टीपू सुल्तान) a été l'ennemi implacable de la domination anglaise en Inde. Il a servi de modèle à Jules Verne pour le personnage du capitaine Nemo, neveu de Tipu Sultan, dans Vingt mille lieues sous les mers et L'île mystérieuse.

Les Indiens ont défendu leur liberté par l'épée (Tipu Sultan) comme par la non-violence (Gandhi).

Pour affirmer son pouvoir, Tipu utilisait des images de tigre sur son trône en or, ses textiles, ses pièces de monnaie, ses épées et ses uniformes de soldat. Et c'est ainsi que le tigre a fini par être associé à lui. Il existe une autre légende selon laquelle un jour, alors qu'il chassait dans une forêt, Tipu Sultan s'est retrouvé face à un tigre. Il voulait tirer sur l'animal mais son arme ne fonctionna pas et au même moment, alors que le tigre l'attaquait, la dague de Tipu Sultan tomba également sur le sol. Mais l'esprit vif et courageux du sultan lui a rapidement fait ramasser la dague et tuer le tigre. À partir de ce moment-là, on l'a surnommé "le Tigre de Mysore".

Sri Ramakrishna, known as Gadadhar in his childhood, was born on February 17, 1836 at Kamarpukur about sixty miles from Calcutta. His parents, Khudiram (father) and Chandramani (mother), were pious and extremely religious, but they were financially poor making both ends meet with great difficulty. Khudiram, while away from home at Gaya, had a vision in which he was told by Lord Vishnu that he would be born to him as his son. Around same time, Chandramani saw a vision of light emanating from Shiva linga and entering her womb. She collapsed on the floor and realized later that she conceived.

Childhood

Gadadhar was liked by one and all in the village because of his sweet nature and talents in various fine arts. He, however, was not fond of a regular school because his keen intellect found out that the so-called education is only for earning money devoid of any real wisdom. He lost his father at the age of seven which made him more serious and in-drawn. He served monks who stopped at his village during their pilgrimage and listened with rapt attention to the discussions they often had among themselves over religious issues. As a child, he collapsed in ecstasy watching a line of white cranes fly by against the dark clouds in the background and also when acting as Lord Shiva on a stage in the village: a forerunner of what was to be seen later in his life.

In an interview with The Defender, environmental champion Dr. Vandana Shiva shared her perspective on how the degradation of the planet can be reversed by returning to traditional organic farming practices and compassionate community organization.

Shiva’s understanding of economics and corporate greed is grounded in her knowledge of quantum physics. Her description of the cause and effect of materialistic aggression represents a unification theory, detailing the elements of human degradation.
She described this destructive behavior:
“The very idea of thinking you are separate from, and superior to others is a thinking of petty minds. And petty minds create conflicts. Petty minds have the urge to take what belongs to others. It creates the limitlessness of wanting to own more and more.
“And that to me is the disease that has allowed the 1% to emerge. It’s the disease that allowed the techno-barons of today to harvest $1.5 trillion while ordinary people lost $3.4 trillion during the lockdowns and the COVID crisis.”
Shiva’s knowledge of history is based on her analysis of economic and psychological dysfunction. She spoke about a syndrome that has allowed an eclipse of compassion:
“When you’re disconnected and you’ve put owning first, you objectify the others; you made women your property, you made indigenous people your slaves, you made Mother Earth your private property. All of this then allows you simultaneously to give freedom to harm.
“I would call it moral anesthesia. If I’m living, then I’ll feel the pain of everything around me. But if I’m anesthetized by greed, by power, I will not feel that pain. So in a way, the rich and powerful are living under the anesthesia of cruelty.”
Coming from her critical understanding of a world dominated by greed, Shiva’s desire to heal the planet embraces the creative paradigms lost to much of the modern world.
